Equifest, New Zealand’s Largest Equine Event Announces Major Move to Hamilton

Equifest, New Zealand’s leading equine event, is preparing to deliver three days of action-packed education, shopping, competition and nighttime entertainment this October 2026, with organisers confirming a major move to Hamilton, where the event will be hosted at Claudelands Events Centre for the first time.

The relocation marks a significant milestone for the national equine festival, enabling the event to grow and better serve New Zealand’s equine community through improved accessibility, infrastructure and capacity.

Equifest is the only national event of its kind, bringing together riders, horse owners, industry professionals and enthusiasts from all equine disciplines to connect, learn and celebrate horses in an equine-themed, festival-style environment. Event organisers remain committed to continually growing and improving the event for both the industry and the regions it supports.

“We’ve had five incredible years in Taupō, but the event continues to grow, and we’ve sold out our night shows every single year,” says Event Managing Director, Ammie Hardie. “The move to Hamilton is about growth and accessibility for the equine community.”

Having attracted more than 16,000 visitors in 2025, Equifest has firmly established itself as a must-attend event on the national equestrian calendar.

“Hamilton offers everything we need to take Equifest to the next level,” says Ammie. “It’s easy to get to, it has fantastic infrastructure, and the international airport makes it more accessible for visitors travelling from Australia to see the international clinicians we bring in from around the world. It also significantly improves access and logistics for our exhibitors.”

Education remains a cornerstone of Equifest, with a comprehensive programme of clinics and demonstrations designed to help riders improve their performance and get the most out of their partnership with their horse. Some of the country’s most respected educators will share their knowledge and experience, attracting visitors from across New Zealand.

Competition is also a major highlight, with events across jumping and western, ensuring the programme caters to riders of all levels, disciplines and experience. The much-loved, sell-out entertainment night shows will once again showcase the talent, diversity and flair of the equine industry.

Claudelands Events Centre Director Ben Slatter said almost every inch of their venue is set to come alive with this equine festival.

“Equifest is an incredible opportunity to showcase how unique Claudelands Events Centre is, and how we have the flexibility to deliver almost any event. Having up to 400 horses on site, purpose-built stabling, exhibitions, and the ability to host spectacular night shows inside our indoor arena truly sets this event apart. We’re excited to work alongside Equifest to deliver something special for the community.”

Equifest is not just for horse owners either. It is a full-scale festival experience designed for the whole family. Visitors can enjoy spectacular night shows, a wide range of food trucks and pop-up eateries, and a vibrant shopping atmosphere. With a relaxed festival vibe and plenty to see and do throughout the day and into the evening, Equifest offers an unforgettable day out, whether you come for the horses or simply for the experience.

“We look forward to building on the strong visual identity of the event, including our signature use of pink, refining the overall presentation, and delivering the welcoming, high-quality atmosphere exhibitors and attendees have come to expect” says Ammie.
