Marie Richards

Discipline: Equine Photographer

Growing up as a young teenager from South Auckland, Marie lived for her weekends to spend time at a trekking school in Whitford. Her equine photography life started while living on 300 acres, where she had 70 horses roaming in natural herds. Marie would wander the hills observing them and their behaviours, captivated by the power of those magnificent animals. "I was forever changed by them, and I knew that I wanted to find a way to capture their beauty," says Marie.

Self-taught Marie began specialising in equine photography, becoming Woodhill Sands' official photographer, spending weekends at shows covering dressage, show jumping and cross country. "I have been fortunate to have had extensive experience professionally capturing a range of equestrian disciplines, photographing shows around the country as well as being featured in NZ Horse and Pony magazine" says Marie.

Marie is passionate about capturing the special connection between a rider and their horse, and so she developed a unique equestrian photography experience in which the horse and their human have the opportunity to deepen their bond while she creates images that will be cherished for a lifetime.

"For me, photography is a way to seek out and immortalise beauty. It is a gift that I am very passionate about sharing with future young photographers. My range of equestrian photography workshops cater to every photography level and I teach budding photographers the essential skills to start taking beautiful photos of their beloved four-legged companions", she says.

Anyone can snap a photo on a smartphone, but in Marie’s practical demonstrations of the most critical elements of equine photography, you will learn key skills that will help you take your photography to the next level and allow you to preserve special moments that you will remember forever.
